Dharma School

The Denver Buddhist Temple offers Dharma School for children from toddler age to high school senior. Our “year” starts each September and finishes in early June, with a few interruptions for holidays. Each Sunday after the Family Service (9:30 a.m.) children are dismissed to their age-appropriate Dharma School class for Buddhist instruction, dana projects (“kindness projects”), and temple-related activities.

Following class and Adult Service, the Dharma School classes take turns hosting the weekly bake sale. You can easily make a meal out of bake sale purchases which include hot foods like ramen, hot dogs, pizza, and homebaked treats such as brownies, cookies, and pie. Most items are 50 cents each, and the money each class raises goes to fund class projects, field trips, and the end-of-year picnic.

The following classes are taught by temple members who generously volunteer their time.
  • Preschool
  • Kindergarten
  • 1st Grade
  • 2nd Grade
  • 3rd Grade
  • 4th Grade
  • 5th Grade
  • Junior YBA (Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Grades)
  • YBA (Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh, and Twelfth)
If you are new to the temple and would like information concerning the classes, please contact the Dharma School superintendents via the Contact Us link.

Fundraising Efforts for Dharma School
  • Purchase King Soopers cards and reload them
  • Purchase gift cards through script.  There are a wide variety of vendors from which to purchase.
  • Participate in our annual Turkey Bingo, where you can win frozen turkeys (just in time for Thanksgiving!) and cash prizes. The date for 2014 is November 16.
Weather Cancellations

In the case of inclement weather or any other unforeseen event, Dharma School teachers may independently determine that based on where in the Metro area they live, it's best to stay home. If this is the case, they will contact the family of their students to the best of their ability. Parents are asked to make an individual decision about whether to come to the temple in the event of a snowstorm or other weather issue.

Though there may not be Dharma School classes and activities (such as the bake sale), Rev. Fujii will continue to hold service for those who decide to attend. As always, please use caution in your decision to travel to and from the temple.
